No matter how you start, finish it like Lumbini Lions: Season Recap

Lumbini Lions created one of the most remarkable stories of Nepal Premier League 2025, from finishing at the 8th place in NPL Season 1 to winning the champions title in NPL Season 2.

Pre-tournament Preps

After the disappointing first season, where the team managed to win just one game throughout the tournament and finished at the bottom of the table. The management had a clear mindset to build a strong squad.

After the auction and the foreign players buying were done successfully, Robin Singh was appointed a mentor to guide the squad.

League Stage

Lions campaign began with a six-wickets win against the Chitwan Rhinos but had to face three consecutive losses after that; against Karnali Yaks, Kathmandu Grokhas and Sudurpaschim Royals.

Despite the downs, the Lions didn’t lose its hope and came back stronger against Pokhara Avengers, Biratnagar Kings and Janakpur Bolts. The team finished strong and secured its place in the playoffs.

The Playoffs Fight

Entering the playoffs with momentum, the Lions continued to impress.

In Eliminator, Lions defeated the Kathmandu Gorkhas by four wickets and remained still in the race.

In the Qualifiers 2, Biratnagar Kings were defeated by 40 runs and the Lions made their place into the finals.

Every victory showed a balanced team effort, in bowling, batting and captaincy.

The Final Showdown

The final took place on 13th December, 2025 against the Lumbini Lions and Sudurpaschim Royals, who were playing its 2nd consecutive final.

Choosing to bat first, the Royals were bowled out just 85 runs, thanks to the three-wickets haul by captain Rohit Paudel, Sher Malla and Ruben Trumplemann. Chasing the score of 86, Dinesh Adhikari’s explosive batting (42 off 13 balls) set a tone and the Lions completed its target in just nine overs and won the cup by six-wicket victory.

This victory led Lumbini Lions to their maiden title of Nepal Premier League.
